NASHVILLE (February 16,
2010) - “T.J. and Company”, a “retro-feel” radio show with hosts T.J.
Kirby and “Rockin’ Wendy V”, is making a unique personal
connection with radio listeners in the era of automated DJs and
pre-programmed music. The show combines a time-tested format of an earlier
era in broadcasting with the power of social networking.
“T.J. and Company”, with
host T.J. Kirby, began airing on Radio Free Nashville in April 2009.
The show originates from WRFN-LP (Radio Free Nashville) in Pasquo, TN and
currently heard there from 3 - 5 p.m. Central time on Saturdays at 107.1 in
the Nashville area and streaming live at www.radiofreenashville.org
.
Its format is a throwback to the
era of radio when the DJ was more of a personality and directly connecting
with the audience, featuring classic music from the 60s to the 80s, humor,
guest interviews and other features. T. J. and Wendy bring a balance of fun
and humor with occasional seriousness mixed with hope and encouragement.
“It’s what we feel radio today ought to be like,” says T.J. “If we
can bring a smile to one person, mission accomplished.”
“T.J. and Company” found its
classic-era style approach caught on enthusiastically with Facebook users.
Its Facebook group membership is climbing steadily and listeners regularly
post on the group’s page responding to a weekly question or just to
comment on the show as it’s happening.
Wendy V (Wendy Vickers), former
host of the oldies music show “Never Too Old” on Radio Free Nashville,
joined “T.J and Company” as sidekick and co-producer in January of 2010,
returning to her original time slot on the station. Ironically, it was on
Facebook that she and T.J. connected with each other. “I found out
he took over my old time spot, tracked him down on Facebook and introduced
myself,” she says. Their contact slowly grew into professional
collaborations off-air and on-air and resulted in a strongly bonded
friendship between the two and T. J.’s wife Rene.
Coincidentally, the show’s upcoming first anniversary in April comes at the same time Radio Free Nashville celebrates five years of existence. The station will celebrate its anniversary with benefit concert events in April and May.
